Day In The Life of a Tired Worker Bee
I don’t know why I use so many bee analogies when I’m so allergic to honey. Maybe I’m trying to pseudoscience my allergy away.
I never know how to start these. I end up self-scrutinizing more than I write :3 but I’ve always loved ‘a day in the life of’ style posts so I wanted to try my hand at my own!
7 AM - I start snoozing my many alarms at this point, and usually finally crawl out of bed closer to 7:20-7:30 after petting whichever cat has decided to meow in my face. I immediately get started on my morning routine because I’ll otherwise put off brushing my teeth and washing my face until the last second.
8 AM - I head to the kitchen to make my partner and I coffee, which takes quite a while because we use a manual pour over, so it’s become my little morning ritual. The quiet and the smell of coffee is very relaxing before having to hustle to get out the door.
9 AM - If I have to head to the office, I take the train about 45 minutes into the city, before transferring to another one for 2 stops so my walk to the office is shorter :) I hate walking through busy parts of the city, so I’ll take however many trains to turn 8 blocks into 3
10 AM - I get to the office at 10ish most days, and will have another cup of coffee or some tea once I set my things down at my desk. There’s typically administrative tasks or meetings waiting for me when I get there, so I try to get down to work quickly to make the most of the little time I’ll get to spend there before my commute back for afternoon programming.
1 PM - If it’s not an office day, I get to stay in the same borough and get some of my administrative work done from home before I take a bus to my afternoon program. Lately I’ve had a class to teach every weekday, and it’s been really fun learning all the new kids’ names and getting them up to speed.
2 PM - I try my best to get to program early on the mornings I work from home so I can grab a little treat before programming starts. I’ve found a shop that makes great lattes and rice balls, that’s also right by a Barnes and Nobles!!! So I’ll be there quite a lot I imagine.
6 PM - I get home around 6 most days, and I’ll try to cook one lunch and one dinner pot of food for us to last the week Sunday or Monday evening. This helps us have basic meal prep covered, and food to bring to work if we decide to. Below is my absolute favorite soup, borscht, which I make too much of at least once a month and have to give away to my friends and family.
8 - 11 PM - After dinner my partner and I usually relax. We’ll exercise if we’ve got the energy, shower, and retire to our respective desks with some tea to work on our projects. We typically both crawl into bed at 11 to read, and I end the night by journaling a little in my dream journal with the hope that I’ll start retaining my dreams better.
Well that’s all! This post is a lot shorter than usual, but I hope it’s fun and tells you a bit more about me :)
